Modular Jetty Access Systems

Contract Investor:

Fugro GeoServices

Contract Location:

Hinkley Point C, Avonmouth.

The Brief

The client required a lightweight, modular access system that could be installed, modified and dismantled by their own personnel. A tight deadline was required to meet the client’s programme of works.

Six different configurations were required with platform height adjustment to cater for every location.

It was also essential that the handrails could be moved and repositioned easily to suit the ongoing works on the jetty.

The Product

A modular approach meant that only 14no. standard components were required to achieve all 6no. configurations. A component selector table was developed by the design team to indicate the number of components required for each configuration. An illustrative user manual together with on site training provided the operatives with the necessary resources to safely install, modify and dismantle efficiently as required.

Adjustable legs were used in the base frames to provide the client with the +/- 175mm required to cater for each configuration.

Design development and CAD model testing enabled the design team to restrict the design of handrails to 2no. variations that allowed the user to safely dismantle from floor or platform level efficiently when required.

Summary

The system provided the client with an innovative modular access solution enabling their workforce to install, modify and dismantle safely and independently.

This allowed efficient completion of the programme which was instrumental to the successful relationship formed with the client, that consequently lead to additional enquiries/orders.
