Aviation Access Systems

The Project

Jasper Products ltd completed the design manufacture and delivery of a series of aviation access systems for a custom Bombardier global express aircraft maintained by Raytheon, Broughton.

This delivery was the second order for aviation access platforms following the impressive and successful delivery of a tail dock system designed for the smaller Hawker King Air Aircraft.

The design process took some months due to the complex layout and size of the system. 3d model drawings were produced to allow the customer to visualise the end product. The client was encouraged to visit the factory during the design process and production. This helped to build confidence and ensure their requirements were met. This allowed any additions, modifications and changes to be accommodated at this production stage. This gave a more cost effective solution and an improved product.End users and operators were also encouraged to view the systems during manufacture.

The order consisted of several elements including:

  • Tail Staging access unit (3no. detachable units)
  • Nose Staging access unit
  • Leading Edge access units
  • Pylon access Unit

The Product

The aviation access systems were produced form high grade aluminium and non slip fire retardant marine ply decking and GRP kick plates. Due to the size of the systems some elements were produced in sub assemblies and bolted on pre to delivery.

The tail dock systems measuring 12m x 7 x 6.5m was a multi level aviation access platform that allowed access to several areas of the aircraft. handrails and sections were removable again allowing access to different areas of the aircraft at different opportunities.

Once complete and delivered a full visual aid operating manual and “as built” drawings were provided. On site training was given in the movement locking and checking of the systems provided. On-going checking was offered as a service to the customer.
